This pattern is a variation of the Favorite Sister pattern, and was done as a way to say thank you to the heroes of in my town. On the 4th of July I donate one to the fire department so they can raffle it off and earn money for the fire department.
In my town of 150 people Independence Day is a huge celebration, for many a family reunion. We have a parade that runs down the highway, the fire department makes burgers for everyone, and there are many fun activities for everyone to partake in.

This pattern could be completed by a confident beginner. There are some longer strips and large "blocks" used in the piecing. There are also many flying geese at various sizes, with the smallest being rather small.
